O’Hare was a huge of the Once-ler back when the Thneed business was still booming. O’Hare came from a poor background and dreamed of coming up with an idea that would make him rich, just like the Once-ler did. After the last tree came down and the company failed, O’Hare was disheartened to see his hero had fallen. This is until he got the inspiration for selling air. When we see him looking at the falling apart Thneed sign in the flashback, that was him thinking that the Once-ler’s failure was a gift for him to make his fortune.
